I was just wondering how you guys organised your photos. There is probably a post just like this but i can't be bothered to find it and some new guys might want to share.
Anyway; i store mine in month folders, and in each of them are event folders, where photos from trips are stored. The photos are named as they come of the camera. I do not rename them.
This setup is ok as long as i know the event i want, and what month/ year it is in.
So how about you:
-Folders
-Naming
etc

Well, windows does the sorting of the pictures for me.

When I connect my camera to my pc, windows starts wining that it found a camera and asks me if I want to transfer the pictures to my pc and if I want to attach a label to them.
And all my pictures are sorted that way.

I store them by event/trip in folders, but I can always sort by date in Lightroom (and much more)

In Lightroom, i sort them by month, and then inside the month's folder i either store, them by the day they were taken, or special events go into named event folders under that month!

I also use the Lightroom logic in the yyyy\mm\dd variant.
If a certain day (or days) belongs to some memorable holiday or event I change the folder naming afterwards into "....\..\dd event" to have some visual clue when I roam my folders in windows.
But as I also use the event as a tag on all images it's easy to find e.g. all my holiday images from the Netherlands in Lightroom.

Mine are stored by season/critter.
They don't live in my puter long they get moved to an external hard drive and to seperate folders for critters, RAW & Jpeg.

All of the approximately 9,000 pictures I've taken with point & shoots since early 2004, are stored by month, per year. Although skiing trips which occur in two different years (over new years holiday) get their own folders.

Getting my first DSLR in three to four days and the amount of pictures I take might change my system. I'll also probably look into a nice program (like Light Room mentioned above) to organize and use as opposed to Windows Explorer.
