W00p!

Can't wait, should be here by Monday or Tuesday since I bought it off eBay! (Sorry Gordon, but at the price it was a descent deal!)

£142 second hand, but it is in excellent condition with front and rear caps plus lens hood!

I couldn't afford the 24-70, but there was a Tamron 28-75 and a Sigma 28-70 on ebay, and from what I read, the Sigma was sharper wide open, although both had a good degree of sharpness at F/4 - and this was on a full frame body, and apparently they would perform even better on a APS-C sized sensor - good thing for me.

That main point in buying this lens is for replacing the most used end of my 18-55mm kit lens which isn't that good. I intend to between now and the new year get a 10-20mm sigma or 12-24mm to replace the 18mm end of my 18-55mm - but for now the 18-55 will do for using the 18-28mm range.

Anyway hopefully it is pretty good :D

Hey Daniel, why not do a test of it, like Thomas has with his lenses?

Even just a few crops of the middle and corners of an image taken from a tripod with a self-timer with the aperture wide open and closed to, say, f8 would be useful...

ITS HERE!

Was like Christmas all over again! Lens came nicely packed with plenty of protection, bubble wrap x 3 layers, and lots of the little foam things I like to break apart

Anywho, came as described, not in the Sigma box, but that doesn't matter, I'm trying to stop showing of all my boxes they keep getting in the way and I'm tired of dusting them anyway.

I'll do a mini review here, but, firstly I am going to try tomorrow periods 5 and 6 to grab hold of a camera and record a video review at school! If not, then a text one shall do.

Sigma 28-70mm F/2.8 EX

The lens is pretty big, width wise and is reasonable length wise and when fully zoom in to 70mm, the barrel only extends 4cm or so. It has a nice weight making it feel really substancial and has a pretty good build quality, far superior to that of the lower end Canon Lenses although this is expected because of the EX designation, Sigma's code for a "EXcelent" quality lens, akin to Canons L for Luxuary range although not quite as good quality.

The lens does however suffer from creep. The lens if held upside down or directly up in the air, will extend if you give the zoom ring an adjustment. The lens has a lock feature for when it is fully zoom out to 28mm, which stops if from extending whilst you have it on the camera and are going from location to location. The Zoom and manual focus rings are nice and certainly more sturdy than my current lenses (Canon EF-s 18-55, EF 50mm 1.8 and Kodak 80-210) but I still feel as if they could improve. The manual focus seems a little to loose for my personal preference, along with the zoom ring which seems a little loose but not anything major, although making it slightly tighter may help with the creep issue.

I'll do a full review with lens sharpness etc over the weekend since I have school work this week  but i'll add it into the video review (if i manage to do one) as well.
