Post subject: DMC FZ50 or Canon G7 ?
PostPosted: Sun Mar 18, 2007 10:27 pm
Hi,

I'm looking for a new 'prosumer' camera and have narrowed it down to these two cameras. can you recommend one or give your pro's and con's ?

it's tougher then i expected.... although i love the 12X and handeling of the FZ50 better..

thanks

Hi Rose, welcome to the Cameralabs forums.

They're both great cameras and cost about the same, so it depends on comparing features, look and style.

The Canon G7 is much smaller and more pocketable but only has a 6x zoom.

The FZ50 is physically much bigger, but has a 12x zoom and a flip-out (albeit slightly smaller) screen.

I've compared both cameras and several other options in our Canon G7 verdict here:

http://www.cameralabs.com/reviews/CanonG7/page6.shtml

You can see the FZ50's pros and cons in our verdict here:

http://www.cameralabs.com/reviews/Panas ... age6.shtml

We also have video tours of both cameras which give an idea of how the look work in practice...

Hope that helps!

Gordon

thank you for the quick response,

if you would have given the option to chose between these two, which one would you pick ?

Hmmm, that's a tough one.

I'd say if you don't mind the size of the FZ50 and you'll mostly be using it under bright conditions (so that it doesn't need to increase its ISO), then I reckon it's got the edge. It's great to have the 12x zoom and the flip-out screen.

If you want something much smaller though, the G7 is the better bet.

Hi Rose, I haven't tested the Sony H7 or H9 yet, but intend to once they become available. They do look promising though...

I'm currently testing the Olympus SP-550UZ which has a massive 18x optical zoom - watch out for a full review and video tour soon...
