Great review as always. Its a bit disappointing that Fuji no longer has the advantage over the competition when it comes to noise. Some people I know just want a camera with low noise and don't have the need for other features and its a shame that Fuji no longer has this covered.

Please tell me, the F50fd can achieve the low noise level of its predecessors (F30/31fd) if set to shoot at 6 Megapixels ? Or it doesn't matter ?

Thanks for another detailed, in-depth review of the F50. It's really too bad that Fujifilm has succumb to the mega pixel race. They had a chance to maintain their status as the low light kings of p&s photography. I guess they still hold the crown with the F30/31 bodies, but the body of the F30/31 is starting to show its age.

I can't see any reason to part with my beloved F30 anytime soon.

Hi Steve, you're right - the F30 still looks pretty good...

Hi Gustavo, sadly dropping to 6 mpixels won't make much difference. You'd need to reduce the resolution a lot to seriously increase the sensitivity.

That said, I haven't tried it with the F50fd, so can't say for sure.

Wow, I didn't think anyone else would ask that. I just posted a new topic.

I really think it will make a difference, because as you drop the MP, the ISO jumps from 1600 to 3200 and finally to 6400 at 3mp.

I'm willing to wager that sensitivity DOES increase... how much? I can't say.
I guess I'll have to buy the camera if I'm going to get my answer.

It's a shame because I've waited for this camara for a long time. I never bought the older models because I was holding out for the SD card. Now that it has one.. it would appear it may no longer be the camera for me.

If I buy one, I'll let you guys know.

You won't get any benefit of reducing to 6MP on the F50 and comparing them to the F31. Side by side images will look worse on the F50 even if you downsized a 12mp F50 file to 6mp. I know from experience as I have (had) both cameras. You can't mess with physics and they just packed too many pixels into what could have been a dream camera.
