MIDNIGHT GMT 21ST APRIL 2009 - POLLS CLOSED - WE HAVE A WINNER!

Congratulations to Sublimity for having the Ace in the hand and winning March's Assignment. It was a very close run though with Sublimity and GCJ neck in neck until the last few hours. So congratulations also to GCJ for coming a close second, and also to geo who came third. And finally, thanks once more to everyone who entered, especially all our first-timers.

This means Sublimity has until April 30th to set the theme for next month's Assignment, plus any conditions. Please let us know in the March Comments and Questions thread.

Gordon

MIDNIGHT GMT 31 MARCH 2009 - SUBMISSIONS CLOSED - POLLS ARE OPEN!

VOTE FOR YOUR FAVOURITE!

POLLS CLOSE AT MIDNIGHT GMT 21ST APRIL. THE WINNER CHOOSES THE THEME FOR MAY!

Gordon

Hi everyone! Welcome to March's Assignment!

The theme for this month is "Luck", as suggested by thestig2010 who won the January 2009 competition.

In thestig2010's own words: "The first thing that popped into my head was St. Patrick's Day. So my decision for this month's theme is "Luck."

I'll leave the final interpretation up to you all, but the Merriam Webster definition of "luck" is defined as "a force that brings good fortune or adversity -OR- the events or circumstances that operate for or against an individual."

I'm not a huge fan of post processing, so lets go easy on the photoshoping. Any kind of adjustment to contrast, exposure, color balance, etc is more than welcome, but try to leave the image as natural as possible.

I'm excited!! Everyone have a wonderful month and wonderful spring!!"

So there you have it, the theme for March is "Luck", and as always the image you submit has to be taken during the month of entry – that is, taken during March 2009. Photos taken on an earlier date will be disqualified! And remember, all images submitted here must be no more than 500 pixels on their longest side.

Good luck!

RULES!

1: The photo you submit should be taken during the month of the actual assignment - so for this month's contest, it must be taken during March 2009. Photos taken earlier will be disqualified!

2: You're only allowed to submit one image, and you can't change your mind once it's posted!

3: Images should be no larger than 500 pixels on their longest side.

As always, please exercise good judgement on what is suitable for the forum.

Please include a sentence or two with your photo describing what you were trying to achieve and if there were any particular challenges in doing so like, for example, any special exposure or lighting setup.

We're all enthusiasts here, so it's also great to see what equipment you used and the settings too. So please also include the following:

Camera Model:
Lens and focal length:
Aperture:
Shutter Speed:
Sensitivity:
Post processing:

Submissions will close at midnight GMT on 31st March 2009. The final poll will follow.

Please remember this thread is for submissions only and that posted images should be no more than 500 pixels on their longest side. If you'd like to comment on any of the submissions or ask any questions, please do so in the March 2009 comments thread!

Thanks and good luck!

Gordon

Bad luck or just bad planning?
We've all been there!

After 120 exposures I eventually got a coin-tossing shot that was half-decent. Thank goodness for digital photography! Synchronising my husband's ... er ... tossing abilities, with my stabbing of the release button took some doing. I'd like to pay tribute to both his patience and his endurance!

Canon Powershot G7 on tripod, set to wide angle. Manual focus approx 1 metre, ISO 400, manual exposure 1/125th @ f.8, supplementary Nissin flash on camera set to high power (for short exposure / small aperture / depth of field). Much experimentation necessary to get approriate exposure. Post processing: a little sharpening, cropped and resized.

Hello Everybody,

I am here to submit my photo for this months contest "Luck" though even before I submit my work I chose "GEO" to be the ultimate winner.

I believe everyone has good or bad 'luck' in his life and no one can predict it before it happens to you, if someone can then...
