Hi folks,

After discontinuing its R-D1 digital rangefinder a couple of years back Epson are about to launch the R-D1xG. Release is slated for April 9th though I'm not sure which countries will receive stock. In the meantime here's some information:
    Image

  • Model: ...........R-D1xG
  • Sensor: .........CCD, 23.7mm×15.6mm APS-C. 6.1 megapixels
  • Image Size: ...RAW (12bit) - 3008×2000, JPEG - 3008×2000 / 2240×1488 pixel
  • Media: ..........SD Memory Card (up to 2GB supported)
  • Lens mount: ..EM mount (Leica M-mount compatible with adaptor)
  • ISO Range: ...200 / 400 / 800 / 1600
  • (W x H x D): ..142.0×88.5×39.5mm
  • Weight: .........570g
That's far from comprehensive and may be inaccurately translated but for more you can always check out the Googlish translation of the Japanese product pages here and here.

Compared to the new Panasonic G1's size of 124x84x45mm the R-D1xG doesn't set any records so I guess this camera will live or die by its "cool" factor, the quality of the glass that can be attached (Leica for those deep of pocket) and the performance of that 1.5x FOVCF APS-C sensor and, of course, the price. Kudos to Epson for keeping some interest going in what might be a quiet year for new cameras. 8)

Bob.

Hi folks,

Nikon Watch are reporting that the R-D1x may be for the Japanese market only. Am I alone in thinking this would be a real shame? And confusingly, but then I'm easily confused, if the camera was only for Japan with no prospect of export why would the decals be in English? Here are some more product shots:
Bob.
