Hi Bob
Was wondering in your years of astro-photography, Have you ever took pictures of satellites or the ISS orbiting the earth ?

Hi David,

I'm afraid not. It is possible (see here for an example) but IMHO tracking such objects with a telescope would be virtually impossible without a motor driven mounting that could be programmed for the task.

During the last Shuttle visit to the ISS I had a wonderful opportunity to see both craft pass virtually overhead as the Shuttle was chasing the ISS prior to docking. Even with medium powered binoculars I couldn't resolve the ISS. In the end I just used the Mark 1 eyeballs and allowed my imagination free reign: so near and yet so far. Trouble is that these days I couldn't afford the excess baggage surcharge to get into orbit (it'd need a very powerful rocket!) and anyway I'm too long to fit into the overhead stowage.

P.S. If you haven't tried it NASA TV is better than any earthbound observations during a mission.

So theoritically possible but right gear right moment.
Just thought that if you could shot the moon you can shot the ISS and what a fantastic shot that would be ! and the $ it might fetch !

I guess only NASA can produces such clear images of the ISS. Probably took it with D200 since they ordered a bunch in a article I read somewhere couple weeks / months back. It would be interesting to know what sort of lens or telescope they used it on.

The link is great - there's a ISS tracker - but I would NOT be able to see it this cycle. Hopefully in the next cycle but NZ Auckland up to Bluff is in the list, funny Queenstown is not found.
