Hello Guys.

In the upcoming weekend, I'm going to a motorsport event here in Denmark.
So I were just wondering if any of you guys have some tips for me.

Hi dkmaisto, welcome to the Cameralabs forums!

With car racing, you'd think a fast shutter speed would be best to freeze the action, but this often makes the photo look static and motion-less.

Instead choose a slower shutter speed in shutter priority mode, like say, 1/60, 1/30 or even 1/15, then follow the car as it goes past through the viewfinder and press the button to take the photo as you're still moving the camera.

If you keep the car in the same place in the viewfinder, it will appear sharp, but because you moved the camera with a slow shutter, the background will be blurred - this gives a really good feeling of fast action, and is ideal for cars, horses, dogs, planes or anything else zooming past!

Just experiment with the shutter speed until you get the effect you want.

Make sure Nicolai, that with the method Gordon described your camera is able to auto-adjust focus fast enough! Best to do a little testing on a regular street

Wow, some really nice photos there mate!

Did you use autofocus, I could check the metadata but im lazy lol, if so the AF did one heck of a job not focusing on that fence (I assume if it did you didn't upload those, but please do tell how the AF coped if it was used)

You took Gordons advice I see, panning and shooting at the same time, really good effect

I used af in the beginning, until I realized that it focused on the fence, and I were too slow when it finally focused on the cars, so I tried to use mf, and that worked just fine.
And yes, I came home with a LOT of fence pictures.

MF ftw on moving subjects, unless you havea 1D MKIII lol!
