Bonjour,

After more than two years of announcements, delays and wait, the lens smc DA* 60-250mm f/4 ED (IF) SDM is still waited for :(

I pre-ordered mine for Christmas, but delivery date was postponed first for end of January and now somewhere in March :!:

I reviewed the availability dates on the successive releases of the Pentax lens roadmap
  • Roadmap dated September 2006 : availability set during 2007
  • Roadmap dated August 2007 : availability set for December 2007
  • Roadmap dated September 2007 : no date
  • Roadmap dated March 2008 : availability set for Summer 2008
  • Roadmap dated September 2008 : availability set for January 2009
Last news: Spring 2009 now, as seen  here :( Official reason given by Pentax is

Quote:
■ Release Date
Changes in the spring of 2009 (initially scheduled for launch in 2009 a month)
■ Reason
To ensure the quality and performance are expected to have decided that more time to develop

Obviously, when I receive my lens, I'll publish my usual PENTAX smc DA* 60-250mm f/4 ED (IF) SDM User Review

Wait, wait, wait and see :?

I'm sure it's an awesome lens. (a bit pricy though)

Still, this is one of the reasons the Pentax brand is not "friendly" to anyone.

I think they want to make sure it is the best when released,

There are two tough competitors in the market right now.

- Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 macro
- Sigma 70-20mm f/2.8 HSM macro

Both has f/2.8 so Pentax might want to perfect this f4 lens to ensure that Pentaxian do not look at those alternatives.

But don't be too long :D

Bonjour,

According to the French site clubic citing a statement from the PR department of Pentax France,

Quote:
The smc DA * 60-250mm f / 4 ED [IF] SDM is scheduled for end of March at a price of 1 499 euros.

At last :)

:!: Be careful: The article in English is somewhat poorly translated from the original.

Could we dream having this lens before Spring :?:

Hopefully it will be a solid performer at all focal length, then it will worth every cent.

Bonjour,

On the new  lens roadmap released by Pentax on March 3rd, targeted availability for the PENTAX smc DA* 60-250mm f/4 ED (IF) SDM is now Spring 2009.

But the DA 1.4x read converter SDM is gone :!:

By "targeted", I assume nothing is sure :( How long shall I wait :?:

Bonjour,

Pentax has updated its Lens Roadmap on March 24th, 2009.
Image

The targeted availability for the PENTAX smc DA* 60-250mm f/4 ED (IF) SDM remains Spring 2009. Spring 2009 is just now :)
Image

The DA 1.4 SDM converter is still missing, but there's a new comer: a DFA 645 55mm f/2.8, with target availability around the same time as Pentax 645 launch.

Bonjour,

Maybe some news about the long awaited lens with an official release date set for April 24th, 2009.

See here the translation of the Pentax page from  Japanese into  English :!:

As always, I'm waiting for the lens on my very hands to say it's real :)

Bonsoir,

I received today a notification from the shop where I ordered the long awaited lens. The lens has been shipped and should arrive at the beginning of next week :!:

After 2 years of delays from Pentax, 5 days for delivery seem short :)

Obviously, when I receive my lens, I'll publish my usual  Pentax smc DA* 60-250mm f/4 ED (IF) SDM User Review

Bonsoir,

Actually, I was surprised by how big a price difference on this lens, circa 27%. Check carefully:

around EUR 1,400, tax included
later updated in March to 1,500 EUR, tax included
at amazon.fr

around EUR 1,100, tax included
later updated in March to 1,200 EUR, tax included
at oehling.fr, amazon.de

Just consider EUR 1 = more or less USD 1, due to a 20% value added tax levied in France and 19% in Germany.

A EUR 300 / USD 300 difference is worth looking around, isn't it :?:
