that was a good idea to add flowers to the list of topics in your photography tips section! I personally love flowers and find them being one of the important things that bring color to your pics - even in non-tropic Germany . See my ever growing selection of flower pics here!
One of the greatest challenges with flowers lies in three things: You want to show them BIG thus use a macro lens, you want some depth of field, and you want to keep them still - despite the wind that constantly shakes them (if you shoot outdoors). This is extremely challenging!
Fortunately you also want a lot of light to bring out the colors, so it's either the sun or you have to use a flash. This is your only chance to combine the required d.o.f. and a short exposure.

But that is not really a macro-photo...

Hopefully with Valentines Day upon us, there'll be plenty of opportunities to photograph some flowers using our camera's close-up modes!

I know this one's from our earlier G7 review, but it shows the kind of effect possible with compact cameras...
