I bought, and just received this evening, a Panasonic FZ28, upgrading from a P&S. I read a lot of reviews, including on this website, before deciding on this camera.

I have a question that I hope someone can help me with, and forgive me if it is too basic of a question, but I want to play with my camera this weekend!

I was going through the setup, following the directions as outlined in the manual. I can access the MODE menu, the PLAYBACK menu and the SETUP menu. But I cannot find or access the REC mode menu. I scroll up, down, and it's not there.

I have the dial set on P, playback switch on green, I press the Set button as for the other menu items, but can't get the REC menu.

Can someone lend a hand, and thanks in advance.

I have 3 Panasonics but not the FZ28. In case nobody else answers this, you should be able to get to the REC menu by setting the camera to take a photo. Power on, mode dial at 'P', and playback not on playback (record instead). As long as you can take a photo, you should be able to get to the REC menu by pressing the menu button.

Thanks for your answer. So simple once you know what to do (as so many things are!). The manual gave the impression (or at least that's the way I was reading it), that to access any of the settings one needed to be in playback mode, not record.

No doubt I'll be posting some more basic questions at some point, but for now I'm going to go out and see what my camera can do!
