To your question: Well I really don't think that reducing the resolution to 8MP in camera does anything to noise. Maybe perhaps reducing the resolution significantly by postprocessing will kill some of the noise. by significantly I mean to below 5MP!
But on the other hand you have to decide how critical the noise is to you: If you view your pictures even on a 1920x1200 HD-Monitor od a 1920x1080 HD-TV set you're reducing the resolution to 2MP! So noise is not that much of an issue. The same holds true for prints at DIN A5 or 5x7".
So you always have to keep in mind, when you see Gordon's test results, that are 100% crops. This does not occur under normal viewing conditions!
