I have a Panasonic G1 and am toying with the idea of buying the 45-200mm lens.

My 3 questions are:

1. Trade in G1 and buy a proper full size DSLR...but which one? (I like the panasonic range just haven't found they sell DLSR)
2. Keep the camera and just buy a longer range lens
3. Will other brand lenses fit onto the G1 as lenses for this camera are so expensive and haven't found any on the 2nd hand market.


If I'd listened to my husband this time last year I wouldn't have this predicament!!

The Panasonic G1 meets the micro FourThirds format (not to be confused with the non-micro version). Lenses to that format will be ok. At the moment, that leaves you with Panasonic (some in conjunction with Leica) and Olympus.

If it is worth changing cameras depends on what you see your future needs are.

One of the strengths of the m4/3 format is that the short flange-focal distance means that you can mount just about any interchangeable lens with the right adapter. The catch is that the lens will be manual only. i.e. no AF and no electronic aperture control. However--no offense intended, I realize the economy is tough right now--I think you'll be hard pressed to find a quality lens with a similar 45-200mm focal length for less than the $350 price of the native Pany Lumix m4/3 lens.
