There are many leaked photos in the net about this camera. It looks like LX3 but with interchangeable lens. Leica will make the optics. 20mm f/1.7 and 45mm macro f/2.8 is also exposed.

There is no viewfinder, but there are built in flash and af assist light. (like LX3).
No built-in IS too. (Panasonic use lens based stabilization called MEGA OIS)

Interested? What do you think? Seems like it will be more expensive than Olympus E-P1

Socket under flash mount speculated to be the electrical contact for external EVF.

That 20mm f/1.7 is high up on my desire list.

I am also interested in the lenses this camera is bringing. I get the feeling that the small prime lens doesn't have OIS built-in, but put it on an E-P1 and the problem is solved.

yes this lens is even greater in ep-1 because it has body based stab.

While I understand that keeping the size down is one of the priorities with these cameras, it seems to me that a full tilt/swivel LCD (like on Pany's GH1) would be a huge plus on a camera that doesn't come with an optical view finder.

Oh, and I agree about the 20mm lens - Mark

If Panasonic get the pricing right (and they never do!) this should give the Olympus some serious competition as it seems to have all the bits that Olympus left out of the E-P1.

i am pessimist they can get the price right. they are conservative in their supply side. Look at lx3 as example.

I just joined the forum after watching almost every video tour on the site, it is hands down the best camera review site on the web!

I love everything I've seen and heard about the G1 and was about to buy it. I'm going to wait for Gordon to review this. If that 20mm is a kit option and is as sharp as I all the other Panasonic/Leica lenses, I will be sold!!

I am torn between G1 and this GF1 which is rumored to announce on 1/2 sep:

* I like GF1 form factor slightly but think its not much smaller than G1. And G1 will feel better with bigger lens.
* G1 has swivel LCD which is a plus.
* GF1 looks like will have an optional EVF, but somehow I prefer the build in one so I don't lose them if not careful
* GF1 has AVCHD Lite which is a plus. I am not willing to pay the price of GH1. I am thinking of getting TZ7 for the time I need video.

I hope I will be clearly on what I want when GF1 is out.

Hi prisonerofcs, Hi gaiusparx, welcome on-board!

I'm afraid I have nothing to add to the rumours, but if it's real, it certainly looks very interesting...

Give it another 24 hours or so - Mark

P.S. As long as I'm posting, anybody hear anything about a fast (f1.8-ish), affordable ($150) 50mm prime? Canon, Sony and Nikon all have one. And yes, I know I can use any of those with the proper adapter, but a) I need AF (at least AFS) and b) the adapter means I lose some of the size advantage of the micro four thirds platform.

Hi, the GF1 is now official, so I'd ask that we continue in this thread:

I'll lock this one now...
