Gordon's reviews of the DMC-TZ3 and FX-30 indicated that battery life was round about 100 shots, way short of Panasonic's claimed 280. How many shots do you usually get from a battery and do you carry a spare? How often in reality do you use the spare?

It depends how long you think you'll be away from mains electricity and your charger! 100 shots could last you 1 month, 1 week, or even 1 day depending on who you are...

A spare is always worth having though...

If the TZ3 is your primary camera, always carry the extra battery. If the TZ3 is going to get used a lot for several hours, you'll need a couple spare batteries.

I newly got my first digital camera, a TZ3. I can tell it is a demanding camera, a big 3 inches screen along with big heavy lens consume the power very rapidly. 3 days after getting my camera I ordered another battery!

Gordon is more about right when tell that the camera will take about 100 shot with a charged battery. anyway, this number can be much more if u dont extend the zoom for every shot and if u dont use the flash and if u turn the camera off right after u take a shot.
once it last with me for 115 shots, the other day I took 215 and still there is some power (I was taking photos for landscape in day light.

anyway, I suggest u to get another battery, it is about 33 us $.

bye for now.

I remember the TZ3 heavy battery consumption, but during my vacation tour yesterday, I used the TZ5 all day on *one* battery charge. Another of many reasons to get the TZ5 instead of the TZ3.
