Hi IROK, yep, it sure looks like Olympus is going for it!
Canon are fond of saying there will eventually only be 3 main players in the DSLR market, and assuming they and Nikon are in there, then it's the third place which is up for grabs. It's therefore interesting to see what Pentax, Sony, Panasonic, Sigma, Samsung and Olympus are doing with each new release.
So many recent DSLRs have been evolutionary steps or even essentially rebadged models that it's really refreshing to see Olympus make such a big leap in one release. Admittedly it's a point they've been working towards for some years, but I'd say they're looking very strong with this year's DSLR and lens announcements.
We've also now got photos of the forthcoming
Olympus P-1 flagship DSLR which features a flip-out screen, along with details of the new lenses on the same page!
So it looks like the E-410 brings you Live View, the E-510 adds anti-shake and the P-1 adds environmental sealing and a flip-out screen. Hopefully it'll also have higher fps, a decent viewfinder and maybe even a higher resolution sensor, but who knows right now...
I'd say the new E-510 with the new 12-60mm f2.8-4.0 sounds like a killer combination though, and one we look forward to putting through its paces.
Watch this space!
