The Olympus case they provided me when purchased the 50mm F2.0 macro lens betrayed me. I put the lens in the case and pulled the strings to close the top and suddenly all that was left in my hands were the strings. my wonderful lens went crashing to the floor inside the case. The hood cracked but the lens is ok. (for now) Auto focus works and nothing broken inside. but man that was a bummer.

Is it an Olympus branded case? If so, you'd have a very good chance of getting a new hood/lens, provided that the bag is fairly new.
