Oh No, not a movie mode :)
But it looks nice, and unless some other brand is coming with a equally attractive system, and the price is not to high. It would find a place in my bag pretty fast.
btw. With the Voigtlander Micro 4/3 Adapter, and the Voigtlander 15/4.5 would also look nice :)

I do miss the grip if it isn't going to be available on it.

Olympus is making a m43 camera similar to the G1 as well. There will be TWO m43 cameras unveiled by the end of June.

Finally a movie mode. Makes me rethink my decision to buy an E3 now knowing that movie capable E series cameras will be coming out soon. Oh well!

Whoever came up with a direct comparison using the hotshoe as a refrence gets a BIG +1 in my book.

Found this on another forum (translated from chinese site)

Olympus Pen E-P1
Announcement in Mid-June
Available in July
Appearance would be similar to the concept
120x70x35mm 300g (approx)
Colour: Silver and White
Price: Body only, 90,000 Yen; Kit, 125,000 to 130,000 Yen

Lens,
17mm F2.8 pancake, price: 45,000-50,000 Yen
14-42mm F3.6-, price approx. 35,000 Yen

Memory: SD card
Resolution: 13M RAW JPEG RAW+JPEG
Video: 1280x720 7min, 640x480 14min
Liveview and in-body image stabilisation
3" LCD (I think that's what it meant)
11 point AF
ISO 6400—200
(Shutter speed?) 60-1/4000"

as for the prices
90000 Yen = $ 912
50000 Yen = $ 507
35000 Yen = $ 355
130000 Yen = $1318

If this is right, the those are very steep prices. Even for a camera as nice as this one.

will this be a prestige camera like Leica? very interesting to follow. Potentially will be the most innovative camera this year.

Making the very big assumption those prices are right, while on the high end of expectations it doesn't sound totally excessive. No one said a small camera would come with a small price. Sounds better than a Pana G1 to me while being smaller, not unreasonable to expect it to cost more too. Also don't forget the manufacturer list prices are always inflated compared to street prices.

Someone said so. OLYMPUS said they wanted to make the m4/3 series a cheap alternative to a dSLR, or an expensive alternative to a compact.

Really, they said so, and I really hope they won't use these prices. They are silly. It's the same problem with the E-3. It's a great camera. But it truly is to expensive. Yeah, I own one.

Other brands are getting into this segment. Olympus has an unique chance to grab a big effing piece of the market before it's started, and high prices is not the way to do that!

Those prices are absurdly high if true, however it is possible that those are accurate. The GH1 price is similarly absurd, almost twice the price of the G1, and I guess this is due to the sensor. Very disappointing if true... They sacrificed affordability for a movie function. Its a nice feature to have, I think, but if it makes the camera twice as expensive, whats the use? Its not as if the video quality will be good enough for professional work anyway, so theres really no justifying the price at all.

A quick cut and paste of the latest spec rumours from 43rumours.com. Worth a visit to their front page as there's some ammusing pics on there at the moment.

43rumours.com wrote:
1) 12MP sensor. Some other rumor says there will be a 13 MP. 90% chance that it will be a 12Mp sensor and 10% that it will be a 13MP
2) BodyIS 99%!
3) 3.0 LCD and no swivel 85%
4) New liveview which works very well with the BodyIS 99%
5) ISO 200-3200 50% . Other option is 100-3200 50%. May this will depends from the final firmware.
6) Two colours - Silver (with black parts) and White/beige 99%
7) 17mm 2.8 and 14-42mm lens 99%
8) The 17mm will come in two colors (silver and black?) 60%
9) One more lens to come? Maybe a second zoom? 35%
10) Same autofocus as the Panasonic G1 50%
11) Video 720p ( Video Record can use 6 ART Fliters, and there is audio recording) 99%
12) Size 120×70×35mm 70%
13) SD/SDHC cards
14) The E-P1 can control an external flash (the FL-XXR)
15) 990$ body+kit lens 70%
16) New converter 43->M43 (with autofocus with normal 43?) 90%
17) external flash FL-xxR ? 75%

By the way, we only have to wait 6 days to know all what we have to know

I really hope they're right on the body IS, that is the killing blow to the Panasonic models as far as I'm concerned.

From previous comments made by Olympus on the MP race, I'd expect them to stick to 12MP but it's not really any different at 13 anyway.

Colour choice will confuse me.

Price here sounds a little less scary than the earlier post and give it a month or two after launch should be quite tolerable.

I wonder which lens will be in the kit though? The prime for the compact size, or the zoom to keep up on features?

The high price of the GH1 is "supposedly" due to the lens and its ability to allow for AF while in film mode. I suppose it's worth it IF someone really cares about the film mode in their SLR(like) camera.

I hope the Oly m4/3 isn't that expensive though. Most important feature for me is having built-in IS. It would be great to have a swivel LCD too.

Thats rubbish. I don't care if movie mode becomes manual focus only, but those prices are ABSURD. Defeats the purpose of m4/3! Theres so many SLR-like point and shoots out there with movie recording and 10000x zoom that nobody in their right minds would want a camera like this or the GH1 for 2-3 times the price. I mean, how much better quality will they actually see out of the 4/3 sensor?
