I ordered the 50mm F2 lens it will arrive on Wednesday. I am a bit confused for the following reason:

This lens is not a telephoto lens and is constant at 50mm. So why then does the barrel extend? On the kit lens the barrel extends when changing from 14mm – 42mm. It does not extend when focusing. Anybody know?

It extends during focusing. Most macros do this, as they would be quite large if they didn't. :)

It's a gem allright. I would love to have one, but have used it extensively.

Enjoy the new lens! The 50mm f/2 is my favorite lens of all!

Maybe I should have waited before posting this thread. I see that the barrel extends when focusing. Funny, I did not realize this as I took the image and then re-focused so the lens barrel returned to its starting position. I could not figure out how to extend this thing. All is right now.

Images, all test, are very sharp. I will be testing some more this afternoon with a friend to see how portraits will look.
