when i compare the second set at 1600 iso (the first set lacks the large file), the amount of noise is about the same i would say. It's a different kind, more grainy for the E620.

It would be nice to see the iso 1600 with noise reduction on low.

very interesting results. the 510 definitely looks less noisy, however, on some shots i noticed that some of the shots are 1024x768 while a shot from the 620 at an equal iso setting is at full resolution. i have seen some great shots from the 620 and e-30 on flickr, these results definitely can make one change their mind. i'll be interested to see how the 620 images clean up with software such as neat image or noise ninja.

Ok, let me go take some photos with the noise reduction set on low.

But first, here are some additional photos using different types of live view AF. My E620 seems to be having issues with the AF sensor in live view though. Whenever I press the AEL/AFL putton on live view, the mirror flips really quickly but it does not focus. And yes, I did switch the settings in the menu to the AF sensor. So I have no idea what's up with that. So I focused using the viewfinder and then switched to live view, and pressed the AEL/AFL button again before taking each shot. That's my roundabout way of using the AF sensor in live view.

I also took some shots with the sharpness increased to +2

Then I took some shots with the 14-54(I) using the hybrid AF in live view (sharpness set back to zero). All other settings are the same as the originals except that the 14-54 is at 54mm, still f/7.1.

The low setting seems rather good

Oopst, sorry. The Low setting with ISO200 was a medium size photo again. I just corrected it, and put the original large in there.

With the noise filter, the images seem even softer. I'm 90% sure I'll return it tomorrow. At this point, I think I'd rather spend the $670 on an used 50-200 or a 50 macro.

Perhaps I'll buy it again if and when prices come down, and Oly releases some updates, and people who know cameras come out with some good advice on how to optimally use the E-620.
