Hoi Armanius, VAT = value added tax.
When I was in the US something like 10% was added to all prices in most shops. Annoying, because I want to see the real price and not without tax.

Prices did finally go down in the U.S.!!

E-30 body only $950 @ Adorama

E-620 body only $600 @ Adorama

I suppose that's without VAT?
So 950 x 1.11 = 1055 including VAT = 795 Euro.
Still cheaper then over here (starting at 860 Euro)

You dont pay tax if you're buying on the internet unless the shop you're buying from is located in the same state as you.

No tax?! Wow you guys are really spoilt :D.

We pay 15% VAT on every item we buy here in the UK. If we were to import it from the US where camera equipment is much cheaper, we'd be hit by import duty and VAT. Talk about a double whammy.

Oh like that. Good for you, but no wonder the budget deficit is so high. We pay 19% VAT.

The reason their deficit is high has nothing to do with not paying taxes. Since January, their deficit has more than doubled with little to show for it, but then this is neither the place or the time to talk about such things ;).

Yes, I must buy more gear. I must ... I can stimulate the economy that way!

Looks like Adorama and B&H are running low on a lot of Oly gear. Lots of out of stock notices even on E-520.
