Have y'all noticed the prices going up in the U.S.? At first, it seemed like a 10-15% increase, but then I saw the 40-150 go from $130 to $252 in both Adorama and B&H!!! 12-60 is up from $750 to $900 at Adorama and $950 at B&H. These mark ups are beyond me. Shortage in supply? Weak dollar? Is there something that we Oly owners should know about?

Whatever the reason, it's bothering me!! That E-3 combo at Adorama for $1950 w/ 12-60 and FL50R is looking awfully good now ...

since you do know now, perhaps its a good time to get the E-3 before it rises even further. the recession isn't ending that soon. I've had mine for 6 months, with no regrets.

Shouldn't they be cheaper during a recession to accomodate lower buying power from consumers?

Maybe there is a strategy change- Oly wants to build higher brand image by increasing the price.

there's no reason for them to. Nikon and Canon have already bumped up prices by 10 percent. And the japanese yen is stronger against the USD this time round. Olympus SHG lenses have always been more or as expensive compared to Canon and Nikon equivalents also.

I just checked Nextag for the 12-60 yikes! look at the price history chart!

Oly what's the deal?

The dollar is strong about 99 yen / dollar and the dollar has been rising against yen since mid dec 2008.

I almost bought a 12-60 for $750 in December now its almost 1000 with shipping.

Is this just olympus or is it the same story for Nikon / Canon / Sony ??

Panasonic G1 prices are still hovering at just under $700. The Panny L10 seems to have dropped about $100 in the last month. Canons SLR's are still priced the same as they have been since the first of the year. Doesn't look like an across the board increase. BTW, I am looking at Adorama prices.
