I have read several reviews, tests, and sundry other information I am nearly sold on the E-510. The one area I see the Olympus lagging the competition is dynamic range. So just how much of a difference does 1.5 stops of dynamic range make? Will this be seen in a large landscape print? If the camera delivers just over 7 stops what is the dynamic range of a pro ink jet printer? Is there any loss of dynamic range due to noise reduction? or conversion from raw to jpeg or tiff formats? I for one would like to see a more in depth explanation and perhaps a comparison in some actual images to illustrate the differences in dynamic range between camera manufactures.

Hi Japhy, welcome to the Cameralabs forums.

We don't currently have a formal test for dynamic range, but it's something we're looking into. As for whether it's a problem on the E-510, have a look at our sample images and judge for yourself. I think it's fine, but if you don't - or have very specialist requirements - then you may be better off with a different system. ... ages.shtml
