Will the Sigma 170-500mm APO F5-6.3 DG AF work for the Nikon D40, and is it Auto-Focus?

If there is no "HSM"-designation in the lens' name, I'm afraid not!

If you're looking for a tele(-zoom) for the D40, take a look at the Nikon AF-S VR 70-300mm 4.5-5.6G IF-ED. It has the added bonus that it has IS - a very valuable feature with a telephoto-lens! Prices below 500EUR.
