A kit is a package which includes the camera body and one (usually budget) lens.

Some kits may include two lenses, but these would normally be called twin lens kits.

So a D80 body kit would include the D80 and one lens, probably either the DX 18-55mm or more likely, the DX 18-135mm. Since there are many different kit lens options for Nikon bodies though, it's very important to check which one you're getting.

See our Nikkor kit lens group test for more details:

What do people mean when they say "D80 Body Kit"?

Ive only ever heard people (me?) say 'kit' lens as in, the lens that comes with the body, as a kit. Body kits are something you do to Vauxhalls.

Kriss, as the only confirmed D40 owner on this forum, I thought you might be voting for it...!

It does show how popular the D80 is though - Nikon's got the balance just right between features and price.

Zorro - body kit - nice! (although not just restricted to Vauxhalls...)

I did toy with the idea of getting a D40 at one point, but if I hadn't finally decided to go with Canon, I would have definitely gone with the D80.

Kriss, the main difference between the D40 and D40x is 6 megapixels versus 10 megapixels. You can read about it all in our Nikon D40x review.

If you want to skip to the chase, check out our D40x verdict:

Oh sorry, thats cool, i have one to, what kind of photo's do you take, General Photography,Aviation, or something else?
I take more aviation photos using my 70-300mm but the hard thing is my lens is manual focus.

Oh, you have one of the old 70-300s - you should look into buying the new 70-300 VR :)

I'd say I'm into General Photography - lots of opportunities around Washington DC... Some animals at the zoo, some flowers at the botanic garden, some challenging low light shots in Smithsonian museums, Cherry Blossoms in the spring... more like a way to have fun and relax during weekends 8)
