I used in the past the Nikon 12-24 lens which was damaged (flooded) on a recent dive. Having now decided to go with the D7100 I would like to ask for opinions/comments on which lens you would consider. Ideally It should have in the range of 12-???? with a fixed aperture. I have studied all I can get on the Nikon, Tokina, Sigma lenses but just can't make up my mind. Any help is appreciated.

In addition; anybody uses the Nikon 17-55 on the D7100? I know it is not ultra-wide but it does offer an interesting range at a fixed aperture.

Thanks for all the help!

The more I read about the Nikkor 12-24mm DX, the more I want to try one, probably a pre-owned lens in order to avoid the quite high MAP price. ("MAP" may be a USA-specific term; it refers to the minimum selling price a manufacturer allows authorized dealers to charge.)

Whle it may seem odd that I would want to buy a DX lens, when my signature lines do not show a DX Nikon box, my wife shoots with a D7000, we have a couple of D70s bodies in the household, and at the longer end of its zoom range, the 12-24mm DX is apparently useful on FX and 35mm film bodies, plus its gasketed mount offers some level of splash resistance.

I realize this reply is not very useful to the author of the original post, but at least this "renews" the thread. :)
