Hi, guys. It’s been a while…
I want to focus again a little bit more on photography and I’ve been thinking about changing my camera. And I’ve had this brilliant/crappy idea. Please help me judge just how good or bad is it:
I own a Nikon D5000 with the kit lens. Back in the day, when looking for a camera, I wanted it to:
- Have interchangeable lenses. Basically I wanted an SLR.
- Be a Nikon, because everyone in the family had a Nikon and I am a very loyal person by nature; no other reason.
- Have video. Somehow it seemed a very important feature.
- Fulfilling thee above, to be as cheap/simple as possible.
Soon I realized that I do not need or want video in my camera or even live view (and could, therefore, have bought a much simpler camera) and the swiveling screen, apart from being somehow cool, was rather useless, since I don’t use live view. And even worse, I had bought a camera without a focusing motor, and will have to buy expensive AF-S lenses.
So now, I have this idea to sell my D5000 with its lens (I don’t know, 400 or 450 euros?) and buy a, wait for it, D50 with a 50mm and some simple zoom. How about that? I know it’s older, it’s slower, it has half the resolutions, it’s worse at high ISO and all the rest of it, but I don’t really care. I will get better/faster glass, a focusing motor build in and a screen on the top of the body, that’s all I want. I am not using the full resolution at the highest ISO of my D5000 anyway. And I’ll probably still have money left to buy some of those horribly cheap Chinese flashes with the wireless triggers.
Anyway, what do you think?
It is my deauty to capture beauty.
