This lens was included in the purchase of my pre-owned Panasonic GX1. I've not had the opportunity to use it yet, but I've been wondering what the colour coding means on the numbers and the markings. Can anyone give me an explanation at all please?

DOF.
The depth of field can be determined by referring to the color coded scale.
The colored lines on either side of the main index mark, correspond to different F numbers which are engraved in corresponding colors.
With the lens focused on a subject and set for a preselected aperture, depth of field can be read from the distance scale.

btw, It appears to be a later version 1981-85 & reckoned to be a great little lens, especially stopped down a bit.

Thank you for the explantion I thought the colours meant something else as I've not seen that on any other lenses. I was experimenting with this lens last night and I have to say I like it. Having to adjust it manually is helping me understand how things work better than the electronic kit lens. I do have to master the art of standing stock still though...!

It's reassuring to know that it's a decent lens, thank you. A 24mm Tamron also came with my camera, so I'm looking forward to giving that a try too.
