:? I would like to buy a Nikon body which will work with my old Nikon lenses,i cant spend a lot so couldn't think of D7000 D3 D300 etc to expensive but what about older models perhaps with only 12 meg pix sensor but still full frame?

I upgraded  My Nikon F and Nikormat FTN as the replacement batteries are not easy to find?Ditto for my gossens light meter, which replaced my weston meter 2

I now use a Nikon F3 .I use mostly B&W which i develop myself, when i had the Nikormat i would have color film which the local mega store would process with varying results

I would like to go digital.I bought a Nikon D5000 which was rubbish focusing when it woke up worse i couldnt use any of my lenses. The 18/55mm gave excellent results

I have yet to see a digital lens that can produce a result as those produced by my 55mm f3.5 (pre Ai) or my 135mm f2.8 Q lens for example

I know there are excellent lenses made with auto everything but they cost soooo much id rather remain with my current lenses and buy a secondhand Nikon digital body for $100/--200 but which :?:

My main camera has been(and still is) a Sony NX3 which fast to use and gives amazing results

I will just add that i have a 16mm &30mm both are very good but not as good as my Nikon 35mm50mm(f1,4) 55mm 135mm 200mm 80-200mm

By now i imagine there are Nikons with which i can use my lenses at there focal length not plus 50%
Which Nikon should i look for :?:  :(

"Little older, 12mp, full frame, can't afford D300". Sorry no camera fits what you want. The only affordable Full.frame NIKON sale is the D700. Otherwise get a D200. That is not full frame but will metre fine with your so/ais lenses. Used of course. That's pretty much your cheapest option.

The Nikon DSLRs did not have 12 MP until a relatively short few years ago, and finding the least expensive model among them in really good condition for much less than $1000 US is not so easy. I do believe the first reply above is correct, in that a 10 MP D200 is the oldest Nikon consumer/semi-pro DSLR that will meter with AI and AI-s lenses. A D2x is slightly older than the D200, and will meter with the older lenses, but is going to cost twice+ as much as a D200.

There is the option of stop-down metering, in manual mode, of course, with the Nikon DSLRs which will not meter with the manual focus lenses.

Film is not dead! I shoot digital Canons at work, but on my own time, can opt to enjoy my film Nikons. Film processing may cost a bit, but the computers needed tp process digital images are not cheap, themselves. I am no Nikon expert, but have done some Internet research on the older Nikon
DSLRs. It is possible I have remembered something incorrectly, so please do
verify what I have typed.

Sounds about right Rex. My D2H also meters with with ai lenses, but does not meet OP's megapixel requirements.

Ah, yes, the D2h And D2hs will meter with AI and AI-s. I should have remembered, as I had very nearly purchased a D2hs, when my only Nikkor lens was my 50mm 1.2 AI-s.

Please do read Citruspers' excellent user review of his D2h in that section of these forums! High MP are mostly needed by those requiring quite large prints. I am considering older Nikon DSLRs with as low as 6 MP, in order to get a flash sync speed of 1/500.

For reference, I bought my D2H for 350 euros. That may have been a good deal though.

I still use my D2H professionally. it lags behind in noise performance and dynamic range, but due to it's weak AA filter the perceived edge sharpness should actually still rival 6-8 MP bodies.

Heck, if given a good deal I might consider trading my D90 fot another D2!

:( Greys of Westminster

They have top prices :? Im in the euro zone (back there next week)where i will be spending all my euros between now and march when the euro will go :D Then the French franc will be devalued by about 10% the spanish by 30%

Grays of Westminster have pre 2008 prices today and the British pound will not be devaluing soon since i only have 10 pounds i think ill wait until a French person puts a D2 on ebay 8)

  D2 725 British pounds (My USA laptop hasnt a pounds sign or euro only $ 8) )

A few months ago i was in Zurich Switzerland & just by the train station are several second hand camera shops (not the banhofstrasse) while i was looking the owner showed me several interesting nikons one may have been a D2 :?: none were more than half the Westminster prices

I was looking at Leica  i asked then about using my nikon lenses so perhaps it was a D2 :?: i think he said 4 meg pix?I will try to go there next week or next year :)
