Hi everyone, you may enjoy a new article I've published by Scott Kublin, a photographer friend of mine, who needs to upgrade to a pro DSLR for his work, but is unsure which model to go for. I persuaded him to rent a D3x until we know about all the upcoming announcements.

I was considering buying the D3x for a while as well, but now I am glad I did not. To me its price is not justifiable. If it was 8,500 dollars for the camera and a usable lens like the 200/2.0, then it would be another story... I am still struggling to see how Nikon came up with that price. Personally I abandoned the DSLR bandwagon about a year ago and completely reoriented my photography since I felt the "button monsters" were restricting me too much. If I need megapixels I rent a Leaf back. By the way, the entry level medium format backs these days cost about as much as the D3x. And then there are new developments such as the RED Scarlet with an EF mount...

Very nice write-up from Scott. Glad you saved him from buying the D3x as I'm sure some of the newer/to-be-announced models should fit his bill...

Thanks to both of you for this write-up. While a D3X (or 1D X) is/are not something I am remotely considering for purchase at this time, this helps me better appreciate my two 7D cameras, which are my primary work cameras, and how fortunate I am to have them.

You're welcome RexGig, the 7D remains one of my favourite DSLRs... given the choice of any camera to rent for my trip to see the final Space Shuttle launch this Summer, this was the one I went for!
