...So Ive had my D7000 for a couple of weeks now and now Im thinking of customising the settings, but before I do I wondered how you set up your cameras?

I plan on making use of the custom menu function to put the mostly used items there such as Card 2 function, format memory card, battery info etc - what would you put there? I also plan on having a think about how I can best use the U1 and U2 features.

Thoughts welcome and appreciated.

White balance, auto ISO, AF settings are the first to come to mind.

I have a couple of shooting banks reserved on my D2H but I'm guessing you're talking about the "my menu" menu?

I take pictures so quickly, my highschool was "Continuous High".

i turn off all noise reduction, always shoot raw (auto wb, can edit it later nayway), turn off sounds, viewfinder grid on, fastest continuous shooting speed,

i change settings when i go out to get a starting point so i only have to make smaller adjustments after that

U1 and U2 settings are for things you expect to shoot unexpectedly, what do you shoot? The link below has a few responses.

I guess Im firstly talking about the adjustments that can be made to sharpness, saturation, NR etc which 4xxx's link sheds some light onto (and no doubt further debate)

Secondly any regularly used menu settings that you access, which can then be added to a custom menu.

Thirdly any uses for the U1 and U2 modes.

I tend to shoot either Macro or airshows, with occasional wildlife and landscapes.

I have had my D7000 since April. Ken Rockwell has good settings on his website. I start there. I use U1 for the stuff I shoot everyday, outside. I use U2 for inside flash.

I had a D90 before. In two years I put 21,314 shutter snaps on it. Put a new shutter in it and sold it on ebay for $550.

I just got back from a month in Idaho, and Yellowstone National park where I used my Nikkor 70-200mm f2.8 VR II. The camera and lens are perfect together.

The D7000 is amazing.
