Hey guys, Hope everything's going fine with your photography. I own a Nikon D300s body with a 18-200 Vr II and a macro 105mm. I want to buy a nice portrait lens. So I need suggestions about some portrait lenses you guys think will best suit my camera. When it comes to portrait I love the shallow DOF where your subject is in focus and the background is like a blurry canvas. So, suggest me some portrait lenses... should I go for a prime or others..... I don't want to think about the budget at this moment but anything over 700-800 USD is way too much...... cheers

i believe that your 105 macro will do great for portrait, i myself use the 90mm tammy for portrait and it is a macro lens...

nikon d90 --->af-s dx 18-105mm; tamron 90mm macro

What portraits do you want to take? There are several portrait focal lenghts out there, varying from 50mm (35mm eq.) - 135mm (35mm eq.).

Panasonic DMC-FZ18, Panasonic DMC-FZ28, Canon G5, Canon 350D, Canon 50D + BG-E2N
Tamron 17-50 2.8, Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM,
Canon 18-55 II plus lots of Minolta MD/M42 lenses and bodies
