Hello everyone I am new into photography, recently i bought a new nikon D3100 and now i want to upgrade my lens and want to buy a zoom lens.

Now I am really confused about which lens to buy among nikkor 55-200mm and tamron 70-300mm. The tamron model doesnot have any VR/VC but I guess it will auto focus in my D3100.

Help me out people, please give me suggestions about which one should I go for.

I'm not a big fan of the cheapest 70-300 lenses (without VR/OS/IS). I'd get the Nikon, it's pretty sharp, and is stabilised (something you will appreciate in a longer, slower telezoom).

definitely try and get one with VR/IS or VC

the latest 70-300 Tamron SP VC is very good.

Save a bit and get the 70-300mm Nikkor lens or the 55-200mm. Very nice. I own the 55-300mm and it's reasonably good.

Never used Tamron so unfortunately can't help you there.

I was dissapointed when I tested the 55-200mm. The 55-300 is worse. Get the 70-300mm or save for a Sigma 70-200 F/2.8.

I only used my 85mm F/1.8 for those old portraits. now I'm using the 35mm as well.
