Post subject: Help in Camera and Lens

Hello all,
I am planning to buy the following Camera and Lens:

1. Nikon D90 12.3MP Digital SLR Camera (Body Only) ( for 799$)

2. Nikon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S DX VR Nikkor Zoom Lens ( 180$)

3. Nikon 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED IF AF-S VR Nikkor Zoom Lens ( 300$, with a 200$ discount coupon)

All Brand New and all the items are sold directly from amazon.

can any one please suggest ? Is this a good deal ? Should i go ahead ? Or should i consider other lens ? I am already at the highest end of my budget ( and no way afford a D 7000) ..

The only thing i am thinking is instead of 18-55 should i go with 18-105 for 100$ more ? or is the above package perfect ? Please suggest..Thanks

Depends what you're looking for really.

Personally, Id step down to a D5100 and step the lens up to a Sigma 17-50mm f2.8.

The D5100 actually has a better sensor, but the price could be higher.

Why don't you see if there is an inexpensive 18-105 around? It's more versatile than the 18-55, has better MF implementation and is sharper at a wider range of apertures.

I'd second what Hilary has to say. The 18-105 will be an excellent walkabout lens, with very good IQ for the price. Coupled with the 70-300 and you have most things covered until you decide you'd like something different (like a 35mm f1.8 or the new 50mm f1.8 as fast affordable primes).

mvksagar45, check out my monochrome threads in the Travel section - they're all shot with a D90 and 18-105mm. Some people put that lens down, but it did the job well for me and it's plenty sharp enough.
