Dear friends,
Again I am requesting your advice here, i am in a dialimia now
I can get a brand new sigma 70-200 f2.8 HSM II at a cost of 950USD here in India, and just now i found a used nikkon AFS 80-200 f2.8 at mint condition( 7.5-8/10, i will rate it) the asking prize is almost 775 usd
I recently bought new nikon d90 + 18-105. SO this is the corrent situation here
please help me to make a decision?
I really love this type f 2.8 lens
this is my dream kind of lens to own
thanks

Much for much really.

Id probably go for the Sigma, but its up to you.

The 80-200 AF-S is renowned for its high resale value though, and seeing that you are buying used, you could probably shift it later down the line if you dont like it for the same price as you paid for it.

I have the Sigma. Nice lens, way faster AF than the Nikon, I assume.

This Nikon is the AF-S version though, not the AF-D.

The latest Nikon AF-S 70-200 VR II is the best of the bunch.
And it has stabilization.
But it costs...

The Nikon AF-S 80-200 was almost as good optically, but alas: no stab :?
(plus the risk of the AF-S giving up its ghost)

If you're committed longterm to Nikon get the best lens you can afford.

Thanks guys for ur reply

I almost settled with the nikon 1, but then found few problems with it and decide to stayaway from it
But today i found a better 1, i can score at 9/10, but the asking price is 950 USD, equal to a brand new sigma.
Here in india, sigma have very poor resale value and service, but nikkon have a great resale value and good service networks

So , which will be the best bet, i know u all guys r well experienced and and one of these lenses
Please give ur advice

Well, both have in-built motors, neither have VR or OS. Both are good lenses optically, and should be reliable.

Its all up to whether you want warranty, or better resale value down the track.

I'd lean towards the Nikon (as long as its in good shape) for better resale if you later decide to upgrade the lens.

I'd go for the Nikon myself, considering that neither have a stabilizer. It is true that the Nikon will give you better resale, generally the brand name lenses hold their value better than the third party versions. No matter which version that you go for though, you won't be disappointed. You could also take a look at the previous version of the 70-200 VR II (The 70-200mm VR) which gives you the vibration reduction and does away with the aperture ring (if you have a preference). Of course, it also costs a fair bit more.

In a nutshell, I'd choose the Nikon. Of course, I'm also a bit of a Nikon fanboy :)

The Nikon is shaper & has better bokeh. The Sigma is also very expensive for some reason..

I would buy the Nikon as well. I own the AF-S 80-200 2.8 and I have never regretted it. I love this lens. I have little more to offer you than what has already been said. The autofocus is fast and quiet, the lens is really sharp, etc...

The Nikon seems like a safer bet.

Thanks guys
So, finally I decide to go with Nikkon, but the person whom sell this ,found that there r more demands for this particular lens and its looks as good as new, he increased the prize to 1050 USD. Anyway i decide to grab it before the prize increase again.
As the person is not in station, i wil get it only on thursday, cant wait..
Update my comments as soon as i get it
Thanks guys...
