Hi,
I am quite interested in the new 50mm from Nikon. I understand it has just come out, but does anyone know much about this lens - is it good? Also, are there any good reviews of it yet, I have struggled to find any.
Thanks

Its going to be very good.

Unfortunately that means its going to be expensive and hard to find for a while.

Id recommend a 35mm f1.8 instead for general use, or a 50mm f1.4 instead for portraits. Both would be better for said usage.

It seems to be a very good, sharp lens. It seems to be very promising, but of course, as Jeremy mentioned it's going to become very difficult to find, so try to pick one up as soon as it's released if you can find it. Otherwise, the 50mm f/1.4 is a great choice, but more expensive.

Hi,

I'm only very new to photography but picked this lens up yesterday. I've only just started to play around with it but it seems very good out of the box. I've taken a few pictures on most of the stops and besides being a little blurry in the higher stops the quality is very good. It has a very nice, quick auto focus and is als very quiet.

I own the AF-S 50mm F/1.4, and I don't see much difference between 1.4 and 1.8. Seeing as the new 1.8 lens is almost identical to the 1.4 in design, I'd save my money, unless you absolutely need the F/1.4 (if you shoot in the dark a lot).

Seems significantly sharper than the 50mm F/1.4,tested on full-frame by photozone.de! Can't wait to test it & recommand it to Nikon people that always complained about the lack of F/1.8 primes with AF-S for the budget area.
