Hi, I have a problem, I will buy a used Nikkor 70-300 VR lens but it's have something that make me dude about the purchase. In front of the lens there is a o-ring made of rubber(flexible plastic I think) and it is peeling off. Somebody may be had the same problem with this or other Nikkor lens. Please, anyone can help me with this? Sorry for my english. Thanks.

In this image the o-ring is flashing, so you can identify it.

I believe that it may be part of the lens' construction (I'm not sure though) but I'd keep it on for now. Try sending it into Nikon and see what they say, if it needs replacing or not, etc. I actually asked Nikon using their live chat support (Which you can access here) and they had no idea, I tried to send them the link to the animation but they couldn't get it.

Anyways, I'd bring it to your local shop or send it in, just for now, don't try to peel it off.

I just grabbed my lens, and that ring is made of hard plastic, so all I can think of is that the paint is just peeling.
