very helpful video.
However, mine is D90 and the flash unit is not Nikon, but Nissin... sadly.
So realise that I have to accept the limit..

As mentioned, with the built in flash you can't go faster than 1/200, because that's the flash sync speed. You'll notice that on some other models (Such as the D7000) the sync speed is 1/250, meaning that you can go as fast as 1/250 of a second. With Nikon's external speedlights, you can go much faster, however with some other 3rd party brands it really does depend on the model.

He shows very well what happens if you go above the flash sync speed and ways you can "cheat" the system.

Also, half the reason Ken Rockwell used to claim the D40 was the best camera around was due to its 1/500 s sync speed.
