hi guys just wondered if the Nikon Nikkor 300mm f4.5 AI would be OK on my d80, on bit of a tight budget ,will be shooting out door equestrian events. or Ive seen some gd reports on the 70-210 mm and the 75-240 , I'm a bit confused so many contrasting reports out there , so any advise would be great :D

Well, I'm pretty sure you lose metering, and it won't AF either. So if you can live with those things, go for it. Then again, something like a 70-300 VR mgiht suit you a LOT better.

Hi mrstratts,

the 300mm f4.5 AI ist a great lens but your D80 wont meter with it.

The Nikkor AF 70-210 will be your best bet on a budget! It's light, nice and sharp and the D Version is very fast on focusing!

If budget is up to 300€ get yourself a 80-200 2.8, else get the 70-210!

Cheers,

Karhallarn

By the way, I had the 70-210 Nikkor and have the 300mm f4.5 AI-S!
