Thom's got some exciting news regarding the D90:
Quote:
The big news, however, is that Live View now has a twist that other DSLRs can't currently claim: it can record video (thus the microphone grill).

Full story on his homepage. Sounds exciting!!

Well that is quite the update for the D80!

Looking forward on hearing more.

Thanks.

I'm not so interested in the live view, but the 4.5 fps and the 18-105 VR???

Good upgrade from my D50 8)

I was also going to say that the lens doesn't look too bad...

I think it's a great compliment to a camera like the "D90".

Hi Guy's,
Thought they might have given it the D300 focusing system, maybe they just haven't mentioned that spec in the quick release.

As alway's Regards to all and thanks for making this MY no 1 viewed DSLR site.

Sounds good. I'm not interested in the video recording to be honest, I'd have preferred that was left out so the camera wouldn't cost as much.

I'm not sure that adding video recording would significantly increase the cost of the camera. I suppose people want these features, although seems strange to put video recording in the D90, which isn't really an entry level model. Video recording in the D40 or D60 perhaps, but the D80/90 is real top end amateur/enthusiast.

As an amateur with no connection whatsoever to Nikon (or anyone working for Nikon, at that) I would dare not to question Thom about this. But I don't understand how he jumps to the conclusion that the D90 shoots movies from the presence of a microphone grill. It could just be for voice comments, for instance.

Video capture on a DSLR is surely interesting, but I believe it will also add significantly (and needlessly) to the price (price, not cost) and potentially alienate a significant portion of the purist/enthusiast crowd, especially now that it has become the clear target of the D90. If it happened on the D60 successor, it could be a better move, IMHO.

Well i think micro in front = recording of voices in front of the camera.
Microphone on the back = recording of comments from the photog.

But there are times, when Thom's "information" is just not as accurate as one would like. So we have to wait and see

That's also the reason, why I rewrote the caption of this thread to "...: Speculation about the...". As that's the level of reliability we're currently at.

I don't really think they will include the 51-point AF system found in the D300, D700, and D3. That seems like something they would keep in the semi-pro/pro level cameras.
