I've already seen several people on different forums confusing this camera with the D700. Nikon should have just labeled the camera D7k......would have taken care of any confusion.

But that would confuse with the D7x  , single digit cameras + a letter are the top of the pro line.
As soon as Nikon releases the successor to the D700 (FX), then all probable confusion will be lost.

yes, that was the confusion. It is because the video was presented in a D7000 video on nikonrumours

In a nutshell: It's quite good.

I'm not going to extend myself any further in order to stay on-topic (D7000), but I recomend you to use the search function of the forum since this lens have been discussed in multiple ocasions.

Also, I recommend you to take a look at Gordon's review of the 18-200VRII, where you can see many comparison shots between the 18-200VR, the 16-85VR and the 18-105VR.

This sounds like the camera I have been waiting for, with enough newer and different technology actually worth upgrading to from my awsomely insanely powerful D70.
I certainly want to get one, can't wait for review! :D

Sounds like a reasonable price in the US, read an article on gadgets in our local paper with a D7000 shot and a tag of AU$1950, body only, That close to US2100.

Cheers

4xxxx I think you've got it wrong, as far as I know USD is slightly stronger than AUD. Still, that pricetag would be well above the 1800 US$ mark which is quite pricey, do you pay hefty sales taxes / VAT in Australia?

Remember you can always order from B&H in the USA through our partner stores page. Even when you've added possible tax it may work out cheaper.

i am still looking to buy a new dslr and the new nikon looks like a lovely camera which may be ideal for my needs but looking at prices on amazon uk it is very close to a discounted canon 7d, either body only or kit.

d7000: 1015 body, 1240 kit
7d: 1129 body, 1399 kit

i dont currently have a system camera so am open to either product.
any thoughts on the two choices?

thanks

lots of ideas, but I think you could better post this in the Undecided which brand section of the forum. First tip I can give you, try them both out, hold them in your hands.

@beren23, the article did not say who the dealer was in Oz just the price tag. I used $AU 0.93c for the conversion, in todays paper it list our dollar at 0.9481 against the $US. The tag for the D7000 here of AU $1950 becomes $2056 US. We have a goods and services tax (GST) of 10% which is included in our displayed prices.

We have an infamous Bush Ranger called Ned Kelly, it looks like our dealers are taking up some of his habits, Ned used a gun for persuasion

Cheers
