I'm considering buying a Nikon D700 & the 24-70 ,2.8 lens any of you
had any experience with this lens . presently I have a Dynax D7
konica-minolta with a 18-200 zoom lens but I thought an up date wouldn't
hurt ! + camera king seem to have reasonable prices ?!

This answer is off topic for this thread. But it should be the best combo you can get for a "low" budget. The 24-70 is sharper than some of the equivalent primes.

The sticky thread's title is ambiguous. "Lenses that autofocus on DSLRs without built-in AF motor" could mean either that the lenses lack an AF motor or that the DSLRs do. Compare "I left the house without a garage" with "I left the house without my pants".
