I thought you guys might be interested to see a few photos I've taken with my new Nikon D80 since getting it for Christmas. These are unprocessed jpgs. I have raw files for all the photos but haven't had time to look at those yet.

First off here's a photo of our Christmas tree. I took a 10sec exposure with a quick burst of the onboard flash to light up the tree.

To test out my 70-300mm VR lens I've taken some wildlife photos at the local pond and deer park. Here are a few of the photos:

Finally here are a couple of photos where I was trying to get all arty.

You can see full size versions of these photos together with all the D80 photos I've uploaded so far in my Flickr photostream here.

Hi Phil, sorry, only just got round to replying!

Those are great photos, especially the wildlife shots and the one of the blue door. Sometimes photos dominated by one colour can fool the camera's white balance settings - would you say your photo was an accurate representation of what you saw in real life? The photo still looks great anyway!

Feel free to post more shots, especially if you have anything specific for the new landscape, portrait, wildlife forums etc!

Gordon

Hi Gordon

The blue door is on the outside of my wife's family farm. I went there a couple of weeks ago to take some photos before it is sold. Hopefully that will be any day now. The colours are a good representation of what the door looks like in real life. I did try tweaking the white balance but it didn't make much difference so I uploaded the as shot photo to Flickr. I'll try to post some more photos in the other sections.

You don't use a tripod, don't you?

I do have a tripod but didn't use it for any of these.

Hi Phil,

some of your photos on flickr are currently unavailable! Esp. the "Blue Door" (aka 20070114-016) plus "Roseberry Topping".
What happened?

Hi Tom

I can see the photos fine at the moment. I have noticed that Flickr has been having some problems for me. Sometimes I can't see any photos on the site. I'm thinking about changing to a different photo host and have been looking into using Smugmug which I have heard a lot of good things about.

Yeah, problem seems to be temporary. Now I can see your "Blue Door" perfectly well. May be they had trouble since I uploaded all my NZ-content

b.t.w.: I also found some old blue wood for an interesting shot in NZ: http://www.flickr.com/photos/38912116@N ... 086865770/
