Hello guys. :D

I've just decided to buy my first DSLR and i think i'll go for the nikon d80.

the kit solution(d80 + nikkor 18-70 af-s) is a very good solution but i saw in some stores here in italy the sigma hsm 17-70 and i asked myself if they aren't better(especially brighter) than the nikkor lens.

What do you think?

Nikkor or Sigma and why?

I'm going for the xx-70mm family because i think the next buy will be the nikkor 70-300 vr

thank you all and sorry for my english

Hi lunaticois12,

A warm welcome to the CameraLabs forums and congratulations on your excellent English. 8)

I'll leave the Nikon owners to comment on your lens selection but in the meantime, in case you hadn't spotted it, Gordon has covered the Nikkor AF-S 18-70mm in his Nikkor DX kit lens group test.

There are also reviews of both lenses at Photozone (here and here) and SLRGear (here and here).

'Grazie' Bob for your warm welcome

I'll compare the four reviews....

I have read the nikon lens group test and the d80 review and that's the reason why i chose the d80 (thanks Gordon!!!)
I thought that the sigma's wide aperture would bring a better overall quality image but, as i can see from the test chatìrts, the nikkor lenses are still well-perfoming.

Is there anyone out there who has the sigma lenses?

Ciao a tutti.

ps: "grazie" means thanks and "ciao a tutti" means "bye to all"
