Was just surfing the net and found these two lenses: the 6mm f2.8 and the 2000m m f/11. The 6mm can even see behind you! They where released at the same time so I can only guess that Nikon's engineers felt like having some fun!

There's also a zoom, THE BEAST.

I remember drooling over those lenses when I was poring over Nikon catalogues as a kid! (er, a bit sad I know!)

The telephoto one is actually a schmidt cassegrain telescope - like one of those Celestron or Meade models - could even be a modified one...

Are either of them still for sale?

That would explain why it looks so much like a telescope. The 6mm is for sale on ebay here for 34,700 US dollars. Anyone interested?

Who the hell would buy that for $34,700 - you'd be barking mad!

Well it's either that or a nice car, or college education!

Er hang on...!

Seriously though I wonder what they originally sold for? I think I'll put a call into Nikon... I reckon they were only ever listed as a one-upmanship to Canon though which topped out at 1200mm

They were released along with a whole bunch of other unique lenses. The world's first lens with an aspherical element was released then as well. Perhaps they were meant more of a demonstration of Nikon's technology?

I won't be surprised if someone does buy it.
Knowing the world is full of 'mysterious and eccentric' people.
After all - it's some sort of collectors item now. :P
So you never know.

Capability is one thing, practicallity another.

I suppose it's more of collectors item than piece of photographic equipment nowadays. That seller has hundreds of other interesting equipment like this Stereo Lens and this Mamiya Pistol Camera. He could open a museum! Has anyone seen an image taken with a stereo lens?

There are many pictures on the internet actually. Google "stereographic photos". I might be a bit slow to discover this but its really cool. Link

Are these people serious with those prices in ALL their items?

I own a 1960's Zeiss Ikon Contessa... Do you guys think I'd became rich or something if I sell it in Ebay??
