I'd like to ask how to see the counter for the number of photos taken with a D40. I've looked through the menus and can't seem to be able to find it.

Hi Luis

I dont think it can be found via the menu, however, you can see the counters aka number of shots taken via the playback menu.
Just play back your last shot and the counter should display at the
bottom right. DSCNxxxx.jpg if i am not mistaken.

If you have reset the counter then it will start from 1 again.

That only works if you never delete photos. :-)

Anyway, I've found a way to see the counter. For photos taken in RAW/NEF format, that are posted on flickr, see the details for a line that looks like this:

Code:
Total Number of Shutter Releases for Camera:     1338

Doesn't the D40 have an option that keeps the numbers on the files counting? My D80 does it.

yeah just when you have a memory card inserted it is on the bottom in white letters, while playing back images. I am at 4667.

Yes, unfortunately, I've reset the counter while looking in the menus. :(

Anyway, that line I mentioned still gives the correct number.
