I'm interested in this one if it performs well stopped down. Wide open doesn't interest me much, but as a travel lens and for use with 77mm filters (and my Lee Holder) this could be ideal. Great price point too. Let's see....

To make things perfectly clear:
- The AF-S 18-35/3.5-4.5 G has NO VR.
- The AF-S 16-35/4.0G does have VR.
I'm currently testing both lenses and hope to give you my report on both in May.

Good - like video (for me), at least I wouldn't be paying for something that is not needed

My review-in-progress is on-line here
It has a lot of sample images plus the usual tests for sharpness at close range (Siemenes-stars) and at infinity ("Unremarkables").
Enjoy!

More details e.g. about distortions, flare/glare and comparison to some alternative zooms will make it into the final review.
So stay tuned...

Thanks for a nice review. I am really looking forward to your lens comparisons. I have been pleased with the performance of my copy and am curious about how well it competes with other lenses such as the 16-35mm.

Now that I've added all the information about distortion, flare/glare, AF speed and reliability and even (gasp!) Bokeh I consider this review finished.
Any questions? Shoot!
