I recently made a time-lapse of a ca 45-minute night-time car journey in London. The camera was set to take a still every second, but I think the darkness forced it to prolong the exposure time, so the end result was closer to a photo every 2 seconds. The final product is placed on a 24 fps timeline, so the speed is roughly 48x.
I processed the stills to a 1920x1080p crop using IrfanView's batch processor to cut away only the bottom of each of the 5MP photos, then scaling down, maintaining highest JPG quality) and placed them on a Premiere timeline. At the time, I had only 4GB of RAM and it caused Premiere to crash every time I loaded more than 400 photos into the project, so I resorted to 3 renderings and a final glue at the end.
Even though GoPro's sensor doesn't do terribly well in this sort of a lighting situation, I think the end result is quite viewable
I uploaded it with Creative Commons licence, so that folks that have limited car resources can use it in their videos!
