Some people even look for old-fashioned lenses with no auto-focus but wider apertures, so their price is generally cheaper. AF is not that helpful while filming, since you want to take control of that and any change on focus will have to be done manually, since DSLR's cannot autofocus reliably while filming.

And again, prime lenses always have wider apertures than zooms...

I just dont understand if you are referring to "mode" as with PAL or NTSC, or resolution/fps, or picture style, or setting of shutter speed/aperture/ISO, or something else...

Well the word mode could apply to any of those, but most commonly it refers to the shooting model like Program, Manual etc.

Well as far as the settings I use:

- I use C1 mode programmed to be manual with auto ISO. Exposure has to be fixed to adhere to the 180 degree shutter speed rule. Aperture is whatever you like. ISO is auto but I check for it not to be too high so as to avoid noise. Beware that since the aperture is fixed at either 1/125th of a second (if shooting 60fps) or 1/50th (if shooting at 25fps), you can quickly see that while shooting in daylight the video will be way overexposed. This is the reason why a ND fader is so important. Good camcorders have integrated neutral density filters, but our HDSLR's don't, so you'll have to buy that extra accessory.

- I shoot 25fps, which gives a more cinematic mood. Shoot at 60fps to have super fluid motion, or to shoot sequences that you want later to display as slow motion.

- I used a customized picture style, check out the guide I sent you to see how to adjust it for filming.
