Is the SB-910 going to be a LOT better than the 900? http://nikon.com/news/2011/1130_speedlight_01.htm Seems expensive @ £120 (ish) more than the 900
Presumably it's aimed at professionals who need the extra features.

btw, I'm asking as a complete novice & with little knowledge of external flashes.

Somewhat better UI, better overheating protection (should be a firmware update imho), and hard filters.

Nice changes, but imho not worth upgrading, especially not for 500 bucks.

(I use an SB-600 and YN-560)

I hope they have improved the bulb. Technicians here claim that they change a lot of them, more than on any other flash gun. Most affected are photo journalists and wedding photographers which use them a lot.

I do not see any major improvements in the specifications. To be clear, however, I have been considering buying our first SB-900, so I have no actual experience with it. (We have several Nikon flashes, up to and including three SB-800 flashguns.) The existence of the SB-910 might result in somewhat lower prices for pre-owned SB-900 flashguns, which I would like to see.

RexGig. My local camera shop reduced the price of their SB-900's today by £40 even though they aren't advertising the 910 yet, so I think you will get your wish.
